AND THE ROBBERS
By Cardinal George is one amongst the eighteen stories due for realise into the market this Sept. He is only Eleven and has been described as wonder boy. The whole world is waiting for him.
Once upon a time,
there lived a boy whose name was kunle. He was born and raised in a small
village called nkoku which was not far away from Ibadan the capital city of oyo
state. Kunle was the eldest of his parent five children he was nine years old
when his father died fifteen and four years after his father’s death his mother abandoned him and his younger ones
for their fragile grandmother to take care of. Kunle was left with no other
choice than becoming the bread winner of the family. WITH This new challenge kunle
embraced GOD, doing menial jobs, from hawking in the street to helping out
other people in doing small jobs like cleaning people cars and toilet for a stipend,
he never allowed himself to be counted amongst the bad ones within the village
of Nkoku. Kunle’s reputation for hard work began to gain him the attention of
the adults within the community both men and women would call him to their
homes to come help with domestic chores ; at the end paying for his
service soon after this peers began to
call him village errands boy . At school kunle was brilliant, respectful,
hardworking and humble .a feat that gave him the position of the head boy of
the entire school. KUNLE had finished his primary school and a date was fixed
by the school authorities for their Graduation. Preparation was in top gear,
invitation& cards were sent out. Food and drinks were purchased in large
quantities, everybody was full of expectation and they looked forward to the
Day. The crowd was mammoth, and the pupils display was awesome. Kunle received
a lot of awards and gift both from the teachers and the General public who graced
the occasion. The event ended on a happy note. kunle was full of excitement
that afternoon .he was in the company of some of his friends at school and they
were discussing about their future as they walked along the bush path that led
to a t junction where they would all disintegrate and face their various
houses. Suddenly, a multitude of hurried
steps were heard coming out of the bush, and in a flash there stood before
kunle and his friends , bare- chested boys whose faces where smeared with
chalks and paints and sticks of different ln their hands .
Kunle and his three friends were stilled with
fear and a sudden silence filled the gap between the two parties .who are you
and what do you want with us?”
Cried Ayo, one
of kindle friends. “What have we done?” “Do not worry Ayo, thundered the
leaders of the accoster’s, “we have only come for the village errand boy .You
may go your way.” Kunle’s heart was torn within his chest. “My enemies are at work again” he said to
himself. His friends dared to stay, to stand by him and
fight but soon dispatched when the reign of sticks and blows couldn’t seize to
land on their body parts. Soon, kunle was dragged into the bush where he was
given the beating of his life, “you dare think you are better than us!” the
various voices chorused as they landed blows on kunle . Kunle was brutally
beaten and wounded before they dumped him on the bush path and went their way. Later
that evening men from kunle’s village came looking for hi m with bush lamps and
torches, they had been informed by kunle friends. They took kunle home and
treated him his body was wrapped in bandage for two weeks while the village men
worked with the police to get his assaulters. After thorough investigation, the
police began to pick up the boys who had assaulted kunle. They were rounded up
in two days. They were going to be charged to court after two weeks of being in
the police cell, but fearing the boys might end up in the remand home or prison,
kunle decided to plead on their behalf with the village elders. In the end, the
village elders praised kunle for his grace and kindness and encouraged the boys
who had attacked him to learn from his choice to be useful in spite of the
problem and tragedy life threw at him. “This is kunle whose father die when he
was yet a tender stem, and whose mother abandoned. Life for any of you lazy
boys would have ended, but not for kunle. He picked himself up and decided to
be useful. While you wandered about he walked for people to earn a living and
get some education and now that he is equipped with knowledge you all are
afraid he will go places. But instead of hating him you should learn from his courage
to succeed,” said the village head and with that the boys were released .Kunle
later went to secondary school and did well. He was admitted into the
university of Nsukka one of Nigeria’s oldest and best institution where he
studied law and upon graduating he set up his own chambers in memory of his
late Grandmother. “He called it Jesu Gbemi Ga chambers[ God lifted me chambers]
he was dedicated to helping the less privilege ones who couldn’t afford the high cost of getting
a lawyer and who had been deprived of justice.
